MOT Europoort Rotterdam 3 off 120 000 m3 crude oil tanks
On the 16th of November, 2009 Maasvlakte Oil Terminal (MOT) began the expansion of their storage capacity for crude oil. After a few months of preparation the morning began with the laying of the first base plate to build three new storage tanks at the westernmost part of the Maasvlakte.
The new tanks, which are the largest of their kind, have a combined capacity of 360,000 m3. This will bring the total number of tanks at MOT to 39, with a total storage capacity of 4.5 million m3. The tanks have been commenced for operation end of 2011.
Maasvlakte Oil Terminal is a joint venture between BP, ExxonMobil, Kuwait Petroleum, Shell, Total and Vopak. MOT has performed for more than 35 years an important role in the logistics chain between oil producer and five Dutch refineries. MOT only stores crude oil.
